Komets hold on to win Game 5 and advance in ECHL Playoffs

August 20, 2019

GOODNESS. THERE WERE MANY NERVOUS MOMENTS FOR THE KOMETS AS THEY HOLD ON CLINCH THE SERIES AGAINST QUAD CITY IN GAME 5. THIS COMING JUST 24 HOURS AFTER RALLYING BACK FROM 2 GOALS DOWN ONLY TO LOSE ON A GOAL WITH 15-POINT-2 SECONDS LEFT IN OVERTIME. SO IT’S A GAME 5… NO COMEBACK NECESSARY. IN THE OPENING PERIOD OF PLAY… IT’S CHEEKY TREVOR CHEEK WITH THE FIRST GOAL OF THE GAME OFF THE REBOUDN. STILL IN THE FIRST WITH THE KOMETS ON THE POWER PLAY… OH CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN… JAIME SCHAAFSMA MAKES IT 2-0 IN FAVOR OF THE KOMETS. THEY ARE IN CRUISE CONTROL NOW. FORT WAYNE IS SIMPLY DOMINATING… KYLE THOMAS IS GIVING THE MALLARDS NIGHTMARES. HIS THIRD GOAL OF THE SERIES MAKES IT 3 TO ZIP MIDWAY THROUGH THE SECOND PERIOD. THE FIRST 39 MINUTES BELONGED TO THE KOMETS… BUT NOT SO FAST MY FRIENDS… THIS IS PLAYOFF HOCKEY… WITH 35 SECOND REMAINING IN THE SECOND PERIOD… GRANT ARNOLD SCORES… DEEP BREATHES… IT’S 3-1 HEADING INTO THE THIRD PERIOD OF PLAY. THAT CHANGES WITH CHRIS FRANCIS PUTTING ONE PAST PAT NAGLE… IT’S JUST A ONE GOAL GAME …. BUT EXHALE… THAT’S THE FINAL SCORE AS THE KOMETS WIN… 3-2. FORT WAYNE WILL FACE THE WINNER OF THE TOLEDO AND KALAMAZOO SERIES… THE WALLEYES CURRENTLY LEAD THAT SERIES… 3 GAMES TO 2.
