NHL Playoffs: Ottawa Senators at Pittsburgh Penguins Betting Preview and Pick (05.25.17)

August 29, 2019

All my begging on Tuesday actually paid off, figuratively as well as literally, with the Senators forcing Game 7 in the Eastern Conference Finals but now, I’m facing a fork in the road. Do I take the Sens as massive road underdogs and hang on for what’s sure to be a bumpy ride or do I go into cruise control and lay the Pens chalk. I’ve lost sleep the last couple of nights asking myself this philosophical question and I’ve decided that I won’t be picking either side and I, kind of like Steve Jobs, will be thinking differently tonight and be blazing a new trail, a dangerous and obstacle packed trail fraught with perils but that offers an enticing reward on the other side in the form of cashed prop bets. Let’s blaze. I may be too scared of the possibility that Craig Anderson has figured out that he’s in the matrix to take the Penguins at their gross -200 moneyline but I do expect the Pens to keep peppering Mr. Anderson with pucks. Pittsburgh launched 46 shots at the Sens’ netminder on Tuesday and he stopped all but one of them. Anderson is a better goalie when he faces a high-volume of shots and there’s a good chance he sees at least 210 ounces of vulcanized rubber, for 35 shots in layman’s terms, in game 7. For that reason, I’ll be taking the over on Anderson’s final save count at whatever the books close it at. With both of this evening’s starters goalies looking elite, and the Sens expected to try and slow the game down to a crawl, I’ll be on the under but to keep this in the spirit of proposition betting, I’ll be using 3.5 as my total instead of 5. That wager is being offered at a price of +250 and with half the games in this series so far cashing that bet, it’s a risk I’m easily willing to take. Finally, I’m betting this game to go to overtime at a price of about 3/1 simply on the basis that there’s been four one goal games in the series but there’s only been one overtime. The Sens an Pens have played a combined 10 OT games with this postseason and I’m predicting they play at least one more on Thursday night. This could be the last Game 7 of 2017 guys so make sure to take it all in in all its glory, good luck there tonight and remember you lose 100% of the bets that you don’t make.
