NY Rangers vs Pittsburgh Penguins Mini-Brawl 1999

August 25, 2019

MOMENTS OF THIS HOCKEY GAME. IT’S A GOOD SIGN, A DESPERATE SIGN, EVEN THOUGH THERE’S NO CHANCE OF WINNING THE GAME. WHAT A HIT BY FERENCE. OH, MAN. DAVE: THAT’S GOING TO GET EVERYBODY GOING. HE KNOCKED NEDVED DOWN RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE PITTSBURGH BENCH. DARREN: FERENCE ISN’T A BIG GUY. HE’S 5’10”, 195 POUNDS. THAT’S LITTLE FOR THE NHL. HE WEARS NUMBER SEVEN FOR THE PENGUINS. EIGHTH ROUND PICK IN 1997. AND HE JUST CAME OUT OF NOWHERE. DAVE: YEAH, HE DID. DARREN: MAYBE A LITTLE BEEF GOING ON. MAYBE SOMETHING HAPPENED EARLY ON IN THIS GAME. HIS FIRST NHL SEASON AFTER PLAYING FOUR YEARS OF JUNIOR HOCKEY IN COURT LAND. DAVE: THAT THERE’S STILL SOMETHING GOING ON AT THE BOTTOM OF THAT PILE. THE PLAYERS THAT CAN SEE IT DON’T WANT TO QUIT. KEVIN HATCHER TRYING TO PULL A PLAYER AWAY. DARREN: IT’S KIP MILLER. DAVE: TOUGH SITUATION, TOO, FOR THE PITTSBURGH PLAYERS ON THE BENCH. THEY HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL. THE LEAGUE’S ALREADY COME DOWN ON A SITUATION LIKE THIS THAT HAPPENED — DARREN: DAVE MANSON IN SAN JOSE. DAPE YEP. DARREN: PULLING ON THE TRAIN HERE, HUH? THAT’S JOHN MACLEAN THERE, ISN’T IT? SOMETHING HAPPENED. YOU SEE A VETERAN LIKE MACLEAN WHO’S NOT NOTED FOR THIS. MAYBE UNDERNEATH THE SCRUM SOMETHING HAPPENED. BUT THEN DOWN BELOW IN THE SCRUM WHERE YOU DON’T SEE EVERYTHING, JAGR’S ACTUALLY DONE A GOOD JOB TOO. HE’S GOT ONE OF THE PLAYERS. HE’S GOT KEVIN STEVENS. THAT’S HOW STRONG JAGR IS, BECAUSE KEVIN STEVENS’ ABOUT 240 POUNDS, 230 POUNDS, AND HE’S GOT JAGR. JAGR’S KEEPING HIM OFF THERE. STEVENS WENT OVER AND GAVE HIM A LITTLE POP ON THE LEFT SIDE OF YOUR SCREEN, RIGHT THERE. DAVE: STEVENS WANTS TO GET LOOSE AT FERENCE, BUT HE’S GOING TO BE ESCORTED RIGHT TO THE EXIT EN PICK UP THE MITTS HERE, BUY SOME TIME. HERE’S HOW THIS WHOLE THING STARTED. FERENCE IS SEVEN IN THE BLACK. NEDVED NEVER SEES FERENCE. HATCHER TAKES EXCEPTION. THAT’S WHY MACLEAN IS COMING. BUT MACLEAN IS TAKING EXCEPTION TO THIS HIT. HE FELT THAT’S A CHEAP HIT RIGHT THERE. HE’S MOVING THE PUCK ON ONE SIDE. HE DIDN’T EVEN HAVE CONTROL OF THE PUCK. NEDVED JUST GETS SMOKED. MACLEAN MAKES NO BONES. NOW WE’RE LOOKING FOR A CONTACT

Nearly every player involved here at one time played for the other team?
