ST. PIERRE: FORMER TIGER JARED DEMICHIEL IS ON THE MOVE AGAIN. AFTER STARTING HIS FIRST PROFESSIONAL SEASON IN SOUTH CAROLINA, DMIKES WAS TRADED TO ELMIRA WHERE HE HOPES TO HELP THE JACKALS IN THEIR PLAYOFF PUSH. SO WHAT’S IT LIKE SWITCHING TEAMS SO LATE IN THE SEASON WITH JUST ONE MONTH LEFT? DEMICHIEL: IT’S DEFINITELY PRETTY DIFFICULT BUT IT’S PART OF PROFESSIONAL HOCKEY. YOU’VE GOT TO DEAL WITH IT, YOU’VE JUST GOT TO TAKE THINGS IN STRIDE AND KEEP POSITIVE AND HAVE FUN AND HOPEFULLY YOU’LL GET CALLED UP AND CONTINUE TO IMPROVE AND GET TO PLAY AGAINST SOME GREAT PLAYERS. ST. PIERRE: HOW MUCH HAVE YOU GROWN AND HOW HAVE YOU CHANGED SINCE SIGNING YOUR CONTRACT WITH HERSHEY, PLAYING WITH SOUTH CAROLINA, PLAYING WITH HERSHEY, PLAYING UP HERE? DEMICHIEL: I THINK I’M STILL THE SAME PERSON OFF THE ICE, BUT ON THE ICE IT’S DEFINITELY A DIFFERENT STYLE OF PLAY FROM COLLEGE. THE GUYS SYNCH THE GAME PRETTY WELL, YOU ALSO, I MEAN YOU HAVE A LOT MORE FREE TIME ON YOUR HANDS AWAY FROM THE RINK, SO I HAD TO LEARN TO GO TO THE GYM ON MY OWN. IN COLLEGE IT WAS MANDATORY. AND THEN WHEN YOU’RE DONE WITH YOUR WORKOUT YOU HAVE TO THINK OF QUALITY WAYS TO SPEND YOUR TIME, SO I LEARNED TO WATCH SOME VIDEO OF PREVIOUS GAMES. I ALSO WAS A LITTLE BIT OF A DORK ON THE INTERNET, I CHECKED OUT OPPOSING TEAMS, SAW WHAT PLAYERS WERE ON THE TOP LINES, HAD A LOT OF POINTS, PLUS MINUS, I MEAN, IT’S A JOB AT THE END OF THE DAY, AND IF YOU DON’T PREPARE TO THE FULLEST, THERE’S GOING TO BE SOMEBODY OUT THERE WHO’S GOING TO OUTPREPARE YOU AND TAKE YOUR JOB. ST. PIERRE: WHAT’S THE GRIND LIKE IN THE PROFESSIONAL GAME WHERE YOU PLAY TWICE AS MANY GAMES IN ESSENTIALLY THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME? DEMICHIEL: IT’S PRETTY DIFFICULT; WE HAVE A LOT OF GAMES DURING THE WEEK. SOMETIMES WE’LL HAVE THREE OR FOUR GAMES IN A ROW. THERE’S BEEN A COUPLE TIMES THIS YEAR WE’VE HAD SEVEN GAMES IN NINE DAYS, WHICH NEVER HAPPENED IN COLLEGE. IN COLLEGE WE PLAYED FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND THAT WAS IT FOR THE WEEK AND YOU HAD THE REST OF THE WEEK TO RELAX AND LET YOUR BODY HEAL. IN HERE, THERE’S NOT THAT MUCH TIME. IT’S A GRIND; THE ROAD TRIPS ARE A LOT LONGER, WE DRIVE THROUGH THE NIGHT IF THE TRIP’S OVER SEVEN HOURS. SO SAY WE PLAY ON FRIDAY, WE’LL LEAVE ON WEDNESDAY, DRIVE THROUGH THE NIGHT ON A SUPER BUS, GET THERE THURSDAY MORNING, PRACTICE, AND YOU FEEL LIKE A PILE OF JUNK AND YOU’VE GOT TO GET OUT THERE AND DO YOUR JOB. SO IT’S DEFINITELY A TRANSITION. ST. PIERRE: YOUR LITTLE BUDDY FAVOT IS DOWN HERE IN ELMIRA WITH YOU. WHAT’S IT LIKE BRINGING ANOTHER TIGER ONTO THE TEAM? DEMICHIEL: IT’S AWESOME HAVING HIM HERE. HE’S ACTUALLY LIVING WITH ME TOO. IT’S BEEN AWESOME. I TOLD HIM EARLIER ON IN THE YEAR AFTER PLAYING SOME EAST COAST LEAGUE GAMES, I WAS LIKE, HEY, YOU CAN DEFINITELY PLAY AT THIS LEVEL. IF YOU WANT TO PLAY HERE, YOU CAN DEFINITELY DO IT WHEN THE YEAR’S OVER WITH AND I TOLD HIM TO TAKE WHATEVER WAS THE BEST OPPORTUNITY WAS AND OBVIOUSLY HE MUST HAVE THOUGHT I WAS THE BEST OPPORTUNITY TO COME OUT AND PLAY HOCKEY WITH, SO I’M VERY HAPPY TO HAVE HIM HERE. HE’S A GREAT HOCKEY PLAYER. IT’S AN HONOR TO PLAY WITH ANOTHER RIT TIGER IN PROFESSIONAL HOCKEY. ST. PIERRE: WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO THE RIT HOCKEY PROGRAM TO HAVE GUYS LIKE YOU AND ANDREW PLAYING IN THE BIG LEAGUES, PLAYING IN PROFESSIONAL HOCKEY? DEMICHIEL: IT DEFINITELY MEANS A LOT. I THINK A LOT OF IT HAS TO DO WITH THE COACHES. THEY DO A GREAT JOB RECRUITING PLAYERS. I THINK LAST YEAR GOING TO THE FROZEN FOUR ACTUALLY HELPED GAIN THE TEAM SOME RESPECT PROFESSIONALLY. I KNOW WHEN WE WENT TO THE FROZEN FOUR THERE WERE A LOT OF TEAMS LOOKING AT PLAYERS AT RIT. CHRIS TANEV OBVIOUSLY SIGNED AN NHL CONTRACT THIS YEAR, TYLER BRENNER SIGNED AN NHL CONTRACT. I THINK RIT SINCE IT’S GONE TO DIVISION ONE HAS HAD A TON OF GREAT PLAYERS AND MAYBE DIDN’T GET THE RESPECT IT DESERVED.
