Skip The Rock Golf Drill

Hello. I am Brian Fitzgerald The Golf Doctor. And if you want to improve the way your hands
and body synchronise during the golf swing. I’ve got a great drill for you today it’s
called Skip The Rock Golf Drill. So if this is your first time to this channel. Welcome. This channel is all about helping you play

to hit the subscribe button and the bell notification and then you’re on your way. Today. I’m going to talk to you about how we can
improve the sequence of our hand and body working together during the golf swing. And this is inspired by a lesson I gave the
other day to a guy called Harry. Harry you know who you are. So what was happening with Harry. Harry was a tennis player and a pretty good
tennis player at that. Harry was doing this in the golf swing. And he was finishing with his weight going
in the opposite direction to what he wanted the ball to go in. And at the end of the stroke. He was back here with his left heel off the
ground his weight on his right foot. And the reason he was doing it. Is because he’s a tennis player. He wants to hit the ball up in the air. So we hit up to make it go up in every sport
but golf. In golf we hit down to make it go up. To a degree. So Harry was leaning back because he didn’t
trust the clubs ability to get the ball in the in the air on a subconscious level. And that’s what a lot of players do. As they lean back to try and help scoop that
golf ball in the air. And it was a difficult thing for Harry to
get out of. So what I did is. I came up with this drill that I’m going to
call skip the rock drill. And we use a rock. And we pretend that we’re skipping the rock
down across the water. So we just grip it and then we skip that rock.So
on the screen now you can see me skipping the rock. We can also do it with a golf ball. And we just get into a golf set up. And I feel like I’m skipping that golf ball
down on the ground. In doing so my hips have turned, my shoulders
have turned and the synchronization between my hands and the club have worked really well. So if I come in here and you can see it from
this angle. I have my posture, left hand behind my back. And I’m not thinking golf swing in any way
shape or form. All I’m doing is letting myself skip the rock
and throw the golf ball. And in doing so you can see that my hands
and my body stay nice and coordinated. That worked really well for Harry. So within two shots he started hitting the
ball in the air and a lot more consistently. It was a really good drill to do. Now there is a variation that I have filmed
before. And I will put a link in at the top of the
page. It’s called bounce the ball drill. So we do it with her a basketball and we just
bounce the ball down into the ground. And you can see how my hands and my body are
working together and improving our kinematic sequence. So that’s a drill you can do regularly. You don’t have to physically throw it. You can just simulate it if you want to. But that really does feel that my hand is
driving through the ball. I’m not thinking about my body and it’s reacting
quite nicely. So that drill is really go to help you play

    Hi Brian
    Yet another great exercise and such a simple analogy.
    My golf buddy is prone to this move so will pass this tip on.
    Great results for England in the soccer, rugby (union and league) and of course the cricket.
    The Socceroos have not disgraced themselves and have been a little unlucky.
