Sports is like a global language.
It’s always been this site of complete creative innovation and in a way that’s what contemporary
art values above everything else. There’s been a purposeful removal of identifying
features. It has to do with thinking about how these works are going to live in the future.
Works of art are like an alternate language to understanding history, you know instead
of reading a text about it you can come in and see actual works of art, artifacts.
Technology makes it possible for us now to blur the boundaries between fiction and truth.
I imagine these photographs and videos existing at a time when all memory of the individual
personalities will be gone and at that point these figures will become like their icons,
universal figures of a particular moment or spectacle.
