Is it appropriate for a driver to start an argument with a passenger (no matter who it is), record the argument, then release it to media? Everyone criticizes Travis and no one questions the driver's behavior. Who forced him to drive black car in the first place? If he thinks it's a crap business why doesn't he do something else? Frankly I give points to Travis for even engaging with him, since he was supposed to be driving not debating. This isn't to excuse anything else uber has done, only this incident.

Yes ceo was in the right. What he said was right. Those types of Taxi drivers are greedy, those are the ones that are infamously known for canceling your ride back in yellow cab days. People like that want to blame everyone else around them but don't want to take some accountability. This taxi driver doesn't know what he's talking about. You're a taxi driver, not a business major 🙄. How are you going to tell someone who's running a multi billion dollar business what to do. There would be no uber without him. Take five fucking seats and stick with what you know best… Driving people.

This is a shame how the CEO don't give a s*** about his employees maybe everybody needs to stop driving Uber and tried different company or doing something else so the company would have any source of making any profit and then they're will bankruptcy and then that will show them a lesson to take care of their employees

all digital gig economies are a scam, they all mislead the contractor into false rates without accounting for all the other major factors involved. Such as maintenance fuel costs or vehicle depreciation. The last one is the big one alot people dont think about. Sure you can make some cash if you work the system and only target high surge areas (but even that aspect is being slowly phased out) Not to mention its a high risk job, alot of danger involved with it.

If one ever has any uncertainty about how more pathetic, horrific, cruel, mean and low a human can go, this one video is just suffice to provide that example. This is corporate dictatorship at its finest (or worst .. :)).

Everything but logic aside just think about this situation. The CEO is right, they have mindsets others do not, that’s what makes them unique individuals that lead generation changing industries. If he had not made devices more cheaper, he could have not competed with the competitors and would’ve losses, this meaning every driver would loose as passengers are now using other services other than Uber, it’s a cut that had to be made and only a true leader can see that and would make it. If he had not made that decision and the medallion or yellow cam would’ve had the most efficient fare then the drivers would still ridicule the ceo for not making a strategy to save the company.

Things I learned driving for Uber:

    1. Most people are alright people.

    2. There is an inverse relationship between wealth and being an alright person.

    3. Uber is not a career, it's a payday loan with better terms. When you do the math you are basically trading part of the life of your vehicle for cash at a 1 to 1 ratio based on depreciation.

4:27 FACTS. If the fares don't go down, everyone will take Lyft because it has comparable service and much lower prices. This guys says who cares? Without a rate reduction, he will have higher rates and NO RIDERS. I think it brings up some interesting points.

I completely agree Uber is a money-grubby unlikable company with shady tactics that don't care about their drivers and with a (previously) prick of a CEO, but I agree with a lot of what he said here.

Bottom line, don't complain about not making a ton of money doing a job that anyone with a license and a pulse can do. Work hard, study, get some desirable skills and get a higher paying job. Ubering at high wages was great while it lasted…but if you don't want to work for minimum wage or less on Uber now, go ahead and quit. There is a line out the door of people who would be happy to replace you.

It does suck that Uber misleads a lot of drivers to make it seem like a better job than it is, sometimes causing drivers to think they can make $30 an hour driving for uber and investing into nice shiny cars, cleaning services, nice uniforms and fancy passenger entertainment and luxuries like gum, water, iPads to use while riding, etc. Only to realize they make minimum wage or less after costs and all that money they invested is not coming back anytime soon.

Not tryin' ta be mean, this is just market economics supply and demand at work. There is no way the high rates can continue if competition exists and drivers are willing to drive for less (or can't do the math about gas, taxes, and car depreciation costs not to mention lack of benefits like health, dental, etc.).

As for me, I drive Uber too, so don't think I'm some rich guy picking on the ppl that drive Uber. But I'm not complaining about the wages…nobody is forcing me to drive for Uber, and as I mentioned, it requires no skills to do. I'm also studying to become a software engineer on the side, and I only drive on the way to places I needed to go anyway (greatly increasing the profit per drive).

    Jus' sayin'.

Sorry to say it, but the people at Uber took the time to invent the APP, make it feasible, and work really well. If you don't like it… get a little funding, learn how to write code, and create another competitor in the Market. This time only take 10% of each ride. You will be rich. Others will make more money per ride, all is fair.

If you use someone else's convenient app to do an easy driving job, the APP developers win, you chose the easy way out. Its on you.

This Driver understands Uber's business model better than Travis. Uber's venture capitalist investors subsidise half the cost of every fare. Uber offered to lease its drivers luxury vehicles so they can drive Black cars, and then cuts the UberBlack program, without thought for the lives destroyed. Some people just can't take responsibility that they've been taken for a fool by a multinational corporation that operates on a business model of flaunting local cab licensing laws and regulations

Uber provides a means to drivers to make money by driving people around. Uber (like many other SF unicorn startups) focused on user growth instead of profit when they first started.

However, now investors want to see the company making money so they've tinkered with their business model and had to find a way to generate profit without losing users. So drivers will need to suffer for that. It's business. Uber doesn't force drivers to work for them, and they're allowed to change driver salaries as much as they want. When you sign up to be an employee at a company, you're accepting the salary, the responsibilities, and conditions of your employment. I don't see how that would be any different for Uber drivers.

If you're an Uber driver and think you're worth more than what they're paying you, then quit and figure something better out. If I were Kalanick, I would have fired the driver on spot.

As an Uber driver, all I can say is: "What the heck were you thinking going into $97,000 debt to drive a depreciating asset?"

Not to brag or anything but I bought a nice Toyota Sienna minivan that was 10 years old that had 200,000 miles for $5,000 cash to drive for Uber. Been driving part time for 2 years and it is still running strong.

That is how you can actually make money in this business.

    Lesson to learn.
NEVER lease or buy a new car to drive for a rideshare company.

With car2go, Marvin etc services coming to a rise. I would lower my prices, too if I were him. To compare the fares of car2go and Uber for example, a 10 mins drive(from home to work for me) cost $5.50 using car2go and note that I’d be driving a Benz whilst, as I can recall the last time I took a Uber from home to work is $7.80. As a rational consumer, I have taken my business over to car2go and Maven
Now if you learnt economics, what Uber and other competitors are doing is building an equilibrium in the car sharing monopolistic industry. According to this theory, when a monopolistic market matures, all competitors should make $0 in profit on average It takes and no new competitors can be added or successful in it. Although, it takes time and price wars for information to be fully reflected to the market which then help develops the equilibrium. My point is, he’s doing what he has to do in order to stay in the game as any other businessman. Just as he said, they had to otherwise they would have not existed. New markets are fierce man. So, cut him some slack
Like other posts suggest, drivers should adapt to the system in order to make more profit. After 10 years so, hopefully, when the industry close up its door for more competitors, you then will be able to choose a company that works best for you.
Technology driven industry is still very new, so give it time

I'm going to play the devil's advocate here. The truth is that things look very different from the trenches than from the command post, a guy in the trenches cannot possibly imagine all the things that go with each difficult decision. It's not that his concerns are not valid, it's not that he doesn't have the right to feel frustrated, but the truth is that he really doesn't know what he is talking about from a business perspective.
